Disabling site indexing prevents search engines like Google from crawling and listing your site in search results. This is useful for private projects, staging sites, or content that you don’t want to be publicly accessible.
How to disable site indexing
- Toggle the indexing option:
- Go to the Site Settings section in your Hostjar.io dashboard.
- Find the Indexing option and toggle it off.
- Hostjar.io handles the rest:
- When indexing is disabled, Hostjar.io automatically:
- Updates the
robots.txt
file in the root directory to block search engine crawling. - Adds a
noindex
meta tag to all public pages managed by Hostjar.io.
What happens when indexing is disabled?
- Search engines won’t crawl your site: The
robots.txt
file will prevent search engines from accessing your site. - Pages won’t appear in search results: The
noindex
meta tag ensures that your pages are excluded from search engine indexes.
